How should international students choose health insurance?
A student health plan from your school is not automatically the same thing as a plan on HealthCare.gov. Read the school’s notice and the CMS page on student health plans, then use HealthCare.gov if you are checking marketplace rules for your status. This page does not compare prices or tell you which plan to buy.
What to do next
- Read the CMS explanation of student health plans. Campus rules come from the school, not from a general article.
- HealthCare.gov is the federal marketplace. Some states send you to their own marketplace. Its page on lawfully present immigrants is the official status discussion. This guide does not classify you or estimate a subsidy.
- Medicaid and CHIP depend on the state, your status, and income. A screening result is not an approval.
